On Tuesday, 3rd October 2023, the Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, held a first-of-its-kind Media Chat with student journalists, and influencers and bloggees.9to mark her second anniversary in office.
Here are ten highlights of the Chat👇
1. LASU Bottled Water is in the pipeline. The facility is set and only NAFDAC approval is being awaited to commence production;
2. A section of the 8,000 bed Students Hostel financed by Lagos State Government is completed and ready for allocation. Students will start getting hostel spaces from next session.
3. The Vice Chancellor approved the provision of free transportation for students between LASU Iba Gate and Iyana-School, morning and evening, daily. This is a measure to cushion the effect of the fuel subsidy removal on the students.
4. The Vice Chancellor announced an extension of the Second Semester for an additional 2 Weeks. Exams will now commence mid of November, 2023
5. Examination results of Sandwich Degree Programmes are being collated and would be released shortly.
6. Examination results of full time students for the first semester would be available from Saturday, 7th October 2023
7. In response to the issue of overcrowded classes, the Vice Chancellor announced that the University has adopted hybrid (physical and online) mode of teaching for large classes. The University is already making provision for facilities to support hybrid teaching.
8. WorkStudy Scheme is already being implemented in the University. Students can volunteer to work and get stipends in various centres in the University.
9. Plans by the University to co-host the African Universities Games with the University of Lagos is ongoing. The competition will come up later, next year (2024).
10. The VC expressed her love and interest in her students and their growth. She promised to always give them listening ears and to ensure that they have a rewarding learning experience in the university.
